We moved our boat from the Grand Union Canal to the Kennet & Avon mid summer in 2016 and have enjoyed meeting up with friends and colleagues. Initially with Peter & Lin Atwill, Sue & Andy Smith, and Rob & Trish Munday, who we have worked with at different times helping boaters with all kinds of needs. We have helped give out food parcels where needed and visited boaters that just needed to have "a chat", or those with practical needs. We were privileged to be part of two boat missions (Thatcham & Newbury) in 2017.
We put our boat in Frouds Bridge Marina, in Aldermaston near Reading, in early December 2017. Then, we travelled to Harefield by car on Friday 8 December to stay with friends, as Henry was organising the Boaters' Christian Fellowship Lockside Carol Service at Batchworth Lock the the following day. This Carol Service was a great success, with over 100 people attending. Everyone heard the true meaning of each Carol, along with the gospel message. We went back to the boat until 18 December and travelled to Ashford in Kent to be with our family at Christmas. In January and February we both had serious health issues and so stayed in Ashford with Lin's Mum, as we needed to get temporary doctor and to convalesce. Due to our health issues, we are both unable to physically move our boat and John and Barbara Froggatt have very kindly offered to move our boat back onto the Grand Union Canal (to Rickmansworth) when Blakes Lock is open again, which has been closed since last November for repairs. We have to move to the Rickmansworth area to be near to our doctors and hospital appointments.
